Junction of the E&N Rail Trail and the Galloping Goose
Many people ask "Why not build a trail beside the rail?" In this latest video by Benno and Des they demonstrate that building a trail beside the existing tracks is not a feasible alternative to converting the tracks to a trail. The economic and environmental costs are prohibitive.
There is so clearly no choice between the two-and not only because of the cost. Even aside from that, the E&N right of way has been dormant for 15 years and where I live in the North Island, the Island Corridor Foundation has not seen fit to do the most basic maintenance. Anything that has happened here has been the work of volunteers. And taxpayers continue to fund its “management”. Shame on the politicians who continue to allow this to happen!
