Slow Tourism

Benno & Des at the Langford Station on the E&N Rail Trail.

This latest video by Benno Giesecke and Des James explains the difference between trails and rail trails, and talks about the huge potential for tourism dollars to flow to the Island if the E&N Corridor was converted to a rail trail. They visit a bistro on the Galloping Goose to chat with the owner about the benefits to her from being on that rail trail.

  1. The tourism potential is beyond what would be anticipated for non-motorized based travel. Look at New Zealand’s off road trail system. 26+ trails of 1-7 days duration. Huge annual demand supports many tour companies, accommodation providers and food/drink services. New Zealand has been building routes for over 25 years. They continue to do so.
